On 27th March 2018, master Aigars Baiks was performing about boat restoration, wooden boats and the historical Riga ship in Ventspils Seaside Open-Air Museum.
“In the study of ancient wooden ship and boat engineering technologies in 2012, I have had the honor to study the works of historian and engineer Arturs Eižens Zalsters and his principles and methods of building wooden boats. The scientist has devoted them to the 12th century built so called Riga ship, hoping to create a reconstruction of this ship. Similar experience was gained from the experienced master Juris Zīle, who built viking ship “Indriķis””, shares experience Aigars Baiks, who presented the finesse of restoration of ships and boats at the Ventspils Seaside Open-Air Museum.
Aigars Baiks, co-owner and master of the joint venture “OM Design” and “Yachtland”, is currently restoring a collection of boat and small ships exhibited at Ventspils Seaside Open-Air Museum. Under his guidance, masters work on nine museum exhibits.
Restoration of boats is within the framework of the project “Restoration of historic fishing boats, cutter and ancient sailing objects and the creation of an exposition (Vēsturisko zvejas laivu, kutera un seno burinieku priekšmetu atjaunošana un ekspozīcijas izveide)” that is scheduled to be completed at the end of summer 2018.
